What a Friend We Have in Dubya

(to the tune of "What a Friend We Have in Jesus")

I wrote this fifteen or twenty years ago about Reagan, but "Dubya" scans just as well;
and except for the reference to the Equal Rights Amendment, it's still appropriate.

What a Friend we have in Dubya! He supports our every cause,
Pressuring the House and Senate To enact our fav'rite laws.
He will help us as we strengthen Fam'ly and society;
We'll return to good old values: Righteousness and piety.

Kids will learn respect for parents; They will follow all our rules.
We'll have basic education — Prayer, and segregated schools.
There'll be no more playing hooky; No more nasty rock and roll;
We will know their every movement; We will have complete control.

We'll make sure the nation's morals Are just what they ought to be.
Books and movies we will censor, Bowdlerizing them with glee!
Contraception and abortion Shall encourage sex no more;
Girls will save themselves for marriage! We'll be righteous to the core.

We'll keep women home much longer, Raising up their families.
Not abandoning their children, Just to do whate'er they please.
They shall never go to combat; Very feminine they'll stay.
We will keep our bathrooms separate — We'll defeat the ERA!

What a Friend we have in Dubya! He will keep our country free
From the humanists and commies — Ev'ryone but you and me!!
